Canadian Tire

Canadian Tire's transportation operations aim to improve energy conservation and efficiency through fleet upgrades, advanced route optimization software and improved supplier collaboration for regional distribution.

To improve overall network delivery efficiencies and optimize the amount of product shipped per unit, Canadian Tire:

  • Adopted automated route optimization software;
  • Identified direct shipping opportunities from local suppliers to selected stores in the respective region;
  • Better utilized intermodal transportation to capitalize on rail energy efficiencies; and,
  • Converted trailer fleets from 48 ft. to 53 ft.

    • This resulted in increased fuel efficiency and increased trailer per unit capacity by 12 per cent.
