Loblaw to tap Ontario program with solar panels PDF Print E-mail

As part of its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and reducing the environmental impact of its operations, Loblaw Companies Limited (Loblaw) announced that it will install innovative solar technology on the rooftops of four stores in Ontario as pilot projects. Select Loblaw stores in Ajax, Orleans, Toronto and Whitby, will install photovoltaic panels to leverage solar energy and provide green power to local communities and the province of Ontario.

"This initiative is part of Loblaw's overall effort, through the use of renewable energy sources to reduce our carbon footprint," said Bob Chant, vice president, corporate affairs, Loblaw Companies Limited. "We believe green energy production using innovative technologies such as these pilot projects, supports our commitment to the environment."

Website launched to create renewable energy technology supplier vendor list PDF Print E-mail

Companies that supply and install renewable energy technologies can now apply to offer their goods and services to Ontario school boards and social housing providers.

The Ontario Power Authority announced today the launch of a website where service providers and suppliers of five renewable energy technologies (solar air, solar water, geothermal, solar photovoltaic and small wind) can apply to be included on a vendor list. The website is available at: http://retvendorlist.powerauthority.on.ca/. The deadline to apply to be included on a vendor list is March 26, 2010.

Canada Post greens its fleet with hybrid electric tech PDF Print E-mail

Azure Dynamics Corporation, developers of the Balance Hybrid Electric, the Transit Connect Electric, Force Drive Components and LEEP Freeze Mild Hybrid Systems announced this week that it has received an order for five Balance Hybrid Electric delivery trucks from Canada Post. The five vehicles will serve at Canada Post facilities across Canada and are part of Canada Post's stated effort to replace 3,000 older vehicles over the next five years. The vehicles will be delivered in the first quarter of 2010.

Canada Post uses more than 7,000 vehicles in its fleet to reach every Canadian home and business and believes that its long term economic health is directly linked to the health of employees, communities and the environment. The addition of these Azure Balance Hybrid Electric delivery vehicles is an important milestone in Canada Post's drive to advance and adopt "new" technology that allows Canada Post to achieve its aggressive GHG reduction target and fuel economy improvement plans.

New energy management co-op program to drive cost reductions for local businesses PDF Print E-mail

Partners in Project Green is helping to green the minds of Toronto’s future workforce in an unique co-op program set to bring an eco-advantage for both students and employers in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone.

The program leverages existing engineering and engineering technology co-op programs offered by Seneca College, Humber College, and University of Waterloo, and adds to it a more comprehensive, reciprocal learning program to help businesses identify and implement energy reduction opportunities. The program includes monthly workshops for students and employers, as well as ongoing mentoring from an energy efficiency expert who will provide guidance to the student by discussing specific challenges, ideas, and help review plans while building the student’s progress throughout the work term.
