The Toronto Congress Centre responds to earthquake in Haiti

The Toronto Congress Centre reached out to its industry suppliers and customers by initiating a pledge in the amount of $20,000.00 to be donated to The Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake fund, encouraging industry to follow.

“The dedication and compassion of our industry suppliers and customers truly shined because the response was immediate” explains Mr. Alain Sutton, Chair and CEO of Congress Centres Inc. “in just10 short days The Toronto Congress Centre was able to contribute a combined total of $56,175.00 with the overwhelming support of our industry partners.”

Canadians are encouraged to support Red Cross relief efforts by making a financial donation to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake fund. Donations can be made online at www.redcross.ca/helpnow, by calling toll free 1-800-418-1111 or at any Red Cross office. Cheques should be earmarked Haiti Earthquake.

Canadian Tire's transportation operations aim to improve energy conservation and efficiency through fleet upgrades, advanced route optimization software and improved supplier collaboration for regional distribution.

To improve overall network delivery efficiencies and optimize the amount of product shipped per unit, Canadian Tire:

  • Adopted automated route optimization software;
  • Identified direct shipping opportunities from local suppliers to selected stores in the respective region;
  • Better utilized intermodal transportation to capitalize on rail energy efficiencies; and,
  • Converted trailer fleets from 48 ft. to 53 ft.
  • This resulted in increased fuel efficiency and increased trailer per unit capacity by 12 per cent.
