Partners in Project Green’s Business Ambassadors make up a select community of companies being recognized for best-in-class efforts in transforming the employment lands surrounding Toronto Pearson into an internationally recognized eco-business zone. Broan NuTone Canada (BNC) has joined this community of excellence working together to create a world class eco-business zone.

BNC has shown its commitment to sustainability through many environmental initiatives, including:

  • The Ecoforward™ program, which is designed to discover opportunities for enhancing environmental protection, by energy efficient new product development, and continually improving manufacturing and marketing processes within the company.
  • Numerous adjustments to energy consumption were implemented from 2008 to 2011, with cost savings of >40% per year, totaling up to $320,000 annually. This included retrofitting fluorescent T12 plant and office lighting with T8 lights with electronic ballasts and occupancy sensors, along with installing a timer for lights in the parking lot, and phase liners for equipment motors.
  • Reduction of natural gas consumption by reusing water in tanks for washing ($12,593 in savings), reducing the temperature of washing tanks ($45,447 in savings), chiller and compressor heat recovery ($25,481 in savings), a proprietary Variable Frequency Drive exhaust system for cure oven ($24,292 in savings) and temperature reduction in the dry-off oven ($36,792 in savings), for a total savings of $144,605 annually in natural gas use.
  • BNC has been recognized twice consecutively by Natural Resources Canada - Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) in its biennial CIPEC Leadership awards. BNC received the 2009 Award for “Integrated Energy Efficiency Strategy”, and the 2011 award for “Corporate Stewardship”. This is only the second time in the awards’ history that a single site has been honoured on two consecutive opportunities.

Partners in Project Green is honoured to include BNC in the growing roster of environmental leaders in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone, that includes other green business leaders such as GTAA, Woodbine Entertainment Group and Unilever.

As a Business Ambassador, BNC gains access to dedicated business advisory services such as assistance in identifying service providers, coordinating regulatory and stakeholder meetings, and advancing company specific eco-business opportunities.

Through their leadership as a Business Ambassador, BNC has committed to continuing their march towards sustainability and working with other companies in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone to reduce their costs and identify new business opportunities from sustainability.
