Hydro One Brampton and Sheridan College introduced the Ontario Power Authority’s new Audit Funding Incentive program at the Magna-Plastcoat facility at 26 Kenview Blvd on Thursday, February 2nd. This event was attended and supported by Remy Fernandes, President and CEO, Hydro One Brampton, Jocelyn Piercy, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, Sheridan College, and Marek Poplawski, General Manager, Magna Exteriors & Interiors – Plastcoat. The Audit Funding Incentive Program is designed to help all businesses uncover potential energy savings opportunities through a detailed energy audit. Hydro One Brampton was invited to the College recently by Sheridan faculty, who wanted to showcase their student energy audit program. The utility recognized immediately that partnering with Sheridan on the Audit Funding Incentive would have multiple benefits. For Sheridan, student education including training on real-world Health & Safety issues, processes, factory operations, and measurement techniques. In addition, Hydro One Brampton has very specific expertise in the areas of health & safety, engineering, and energy services, that can be passed on to the students. In return, businesses benefit from thorough and unbiased energy-efficiency improvement recommendations, and because Sheridan’s auditing program is based on cost recovery, in conjunction with the incentive funding, it is very economical. The partnership with Sheridan College came into discussion in a meeting between Hydro One Brampton and Magna - Plastcoat. John Tolliss, Plastcoat’s Facilities, Environment, Health & Safety Manager, instantly responded, “Let’s get them in here!”, and it was quickly arranged to have Sheridan and their students in to do an audit of Plastcoat’s facility. Plastcoat is a recognized technological leader of industry who are committed to energy conservation and environmental stewardship. As with many large businesses, Plastcoat has always looked for ways that they could improve on their own energy efficiencies. They have taken full advantage of the incentive programs offered by Hydro One Brampton making their energy projects more profitable. Those energy projects undertaken by Plastcoat have allowed them to enjoy a comfort level in both energy reduction and an improved internal environment. Partnering with Sheridan offers extra value to this program as it not only accomplishes the primary goal of identifying energy savings, but also provides practical hands-on experience to an upcoming generation of energy professionals. Under the supervision of qualified faculty professionals, student auditors are able to investigate and expose any energy inefficiencies.
