“A culture of continuous improvement at ParPak”Energy reductions just make dollars and sense at ParPak. Their perspective is that while one can’t control how much energy is going to cost, one can certainly control when, how and how much energy is used. Approach Highlights ► Replacing existing chiller, which uses evaporative water, with a new chiller system which operates by re-using water. ► Installing a high efficiency compressor that reduces water use by two thirds. ► Increasing plastic recycling by utilizing a grinder that grinds the plastic remains from the thermoforming process reuse the product as raw material. Results ► High efficiency tube heaters saving 161,000 m3 in natural gas at the 376 Orenda facility. ► Lighting retrofit at two of its locations resulted in savings of 220,000 kWh of electricity at one site and a predicted 320,600 – 610,000 kWh at another facility. ► As of July 2008, ParPak had reduced the energy consumption per production unit by 1.99 per cent and is well on its way to achieving its target of 5 per cent reduction in energy consumption per production unit. |
