Aggressive energy management program yields significant savings at Sysco Canada

“We were looking for low- or no-cost options,” notes Peter Richter, Corporate Energy Manager at Sysco Corporation, about the company’s aggressive energy management program implemented over the past three years at Sysco Canada’s facilities. And they found what they were looking for – with exceptional payback periods. After just two-and-a-half years, Sysco Canada’s company-wide energy intensity is reduced nearly 28 percent over the 2005 baseline, with gross savings estimated to exceed $3 million.

Region of Peel’s industrial, commercial and institutional landscape irrigation pilot project

The Region of Peel has recently begun a pilot project to identify potential outdoor water savings that contribute to peak day demand reduction, achieved through irrigation system modification for the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional sector. This pilot will commence in the spring of 2009. The study will examine ICI summer water users and explore how summer water demands can be reduced through: optimizing current timer based irrigation systems, upgrading to smart controllers, or combining smart controllers with optimized systems.

Partners in Project Green celebrates Earth Day

On Saturday, April 25th, Partners in Project Green celebrated Earth Day with a tree planting and barbeque in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone.

With the assistance of City of Brampton, Region of Peel and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority staff, over 180 volunteers from Lowe-Martin Group, Unisource, Kuehne and Nagel, Bayer Inc., Molson, Shree Ganeshyag Pariwar and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, planted 1,600 trees and shrubs at the Peel Integrated Waste Management Facility.

Eco-Business Zone companies realize the financial benefits of water conservation

The Region of Peel has a Water Efficiency Plan that outlines numerous programs to reduce the region’s overall water demands with a peak day demand reduction goal of 81ML/day by the year 2015. One of these programs targets the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional sector. The Indoor Water Audit Program is aimed at helping high water consuming businesses identify areas of potential water savings that may be achieved through permanent process change. The Region of Peel offers a monetary incentive to businesses participating in the program that reduce their average daily water consumption by undertaking a permanent process change.
