Reducing its energy consumption by 5 percent could save the Canadian automotive parts manufacturing sector $45 million annually and divert 115 megatonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to Peter Corbyn of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA). A newly launched project funded by Natural Resources Canada aims to move quickly towards this goal in a sector that spends approximately $930 million in overall energy costs annually.
The one-year project aims to reduce the energy costs and carbon footprint of up to 24 participating companies by at least 5 percent by April 2010 and to improve senior management awareness of energy consumption and GHG emissions.

Truck drivers in Ontario are embracing after-market fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction technologies, according to a recent survey conducted by the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA).
The survey—conducted from July 6 to July 20—reveals that nearly three-quarters of respondents have introduced in-cab heaters, which eliminate the need to run the engine to warm cabs in winter months.
