Frito-Lay to turn waste snack bags into new products

TerraCycle has entered a partnership with Frito-Lay to turn snack bags into pencil cases and other products, eventually planning to create building materials made out of trashed bags.

TerraCycle hopes to collect 5 million Lay's, Doritos, Tostitos, Cheetos and Fritos snack bags over the next year, and will turn them into tote bags, purses and pencil cases for sale later this year at retailers like Walmart.

To make things easier for businesses in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone, Partners in Project Green has released a directory of financial assistance programs for energy and water conservation measures.  It includes everything from cash to help your company improve the return-on-investment, to free products and rebates on tools you can use to reduce your costs.

Coca-Cola to test Dasani bottles made with sugar cane, molasses

The Coca-Cola Company has unveiled a new plastic bottle made partially from plants. The "PlantBottle" is fully recyclable, has a lower reliance on a non-renewable resource, and reduces carbon emissions, compared with petroleum-based PET plastic bottles.

"The 'PlantBottle" is a significant development in sustainable packaging innovation," said Muhtar Kent, Chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company. "It builds on our legacy of environmental ingenuity and sets the course for us to realize our vision to eventually introduce bottles made with materials that are 100 percent recyclable and renewable."

Toronto Hydro’s Data Centre Incentive Program (DCIP) provides more savings to efficient operations

Toronto provides data centres with financial incentives to reduce energy demand and promote energy efficiency in their data centre operations. Data centres consume large amounts of energy both to run and maintain their IT systems and to ensure proper working conditions with cooling and humidity requirements, placing more stress on building operation systems such as air flow and HVAC systems.
