Regulatory View

As of January 1, 2010, industrial facilities in Ontario that release 25,000 tonnes or more greenhouse gas annually will be required to report their emissions to the government and public. This reporting requirement is one step toward launching the cap-and-trade system to which the provincial government has committed.

While most small and medium-sized enterprises will not be required to report emissions or be regulated under a capand- trade system, the regulations may well affect small business’ clients and suppliers and will certainly become part of the context in which they operate.
