Green space and open space provide key ecological functions and add aesthetic value to the landscape and development. These areas are important for preserving wildlife habitat, and trees, shrubs, plants and grasses play a major role in removing pollutants from the air, absorbing greenhouse gas emissions and filtering precipitation before it returns to local aquatic systems.

The Pearson Eco-Business Zone is unique compared to other large industrial areas, as it has a solid foundation of green space, with approximately 1,000 hectares of natural cover, with the potential for expansion to 1,230 hectares.  Even more impressive, close to 180,000 employees within the Pearson Eco-Business Zone are within a 400 metre walk of green space, making it a valuable amenity for local businesses and their staff.
