Project Green’s study area comprises ~12,000 hectares in the Greater Toronto Area. The area includes the entire Toronto Pearson International Airport as well as portions of the Region of Peel, City of Toronto, City of Mississauga and City of Brampton. The study area also crosses three watersheds including the Etobicoke Creek, Mimico Creek and Humber River. This area is home to more than 12,500 businesses in major sectors related to: transportation and logistics; automotive supply chain; food and beverage processing; and, of course, businesses directly related to the airport. These businesses are primarily small and medium sized companies. This area employs over 350,000 people the majority of whom work for medium sized (100-300 employees) manufacturing companies. *Employment figure is estimated, based on employment figures in the Peel Region Employment Land Study (Hemson Consulting, 2005, “Undertanding Employment Land in the Region of Peel”.)
